Thinking negatively can stop you from reaching your goals.  It can add more stress to your life.  It can even cause you to live an unhealthy lifestyle.  People who have a positive attitude live a  fuller and happier life.

Training yourself to stop the negative thoughts and instead have a positive attitude can take some time.  It is the same as stopping a bad habit such as biting your nails, overspending, or procrastinating.

If you can put some effort into changing this bad habit and instead see the glass half full it will help you out greatly in the long run.

Just think about this famous quote by Henry Ford for a minute.

“Whether you think you can, or think you can’t– your right” – Henry Ford

Below are a few examples of how a positive attitude can increase productivity.

  • Negative thoughts drain you of your energy. Positive thoughts do the opposite.  If instead, you put a positive spin on something that you normally would think negatively about you are highly more likely to be open-minded and give something new a try. Sometimes we get stuck in our same old ways which are hindering us from being able to recognize new opportunities.

  • It Reduces Stress. Stress is harmful to the body.  It causes increased heart rate and blood pressure.  Over time this causes damage to one’s heart and blood vessels.  If you practice at having a positive attitude and outlook toward stressful situations you can better deal with them when they arise.   You will be able to stay calm and figure out your best strategy for the situation rather than panicking.

  • Improves Problem Solving Skills. When you have a positive attitude about something your brain is stimulated. You are then more inclined to work through a problem.  You may communicate more, ask questions, and dig deeper in order to fix the issue which in conclusion makes you more productive.

  • Control of Emotional Decision Making.  Your point of view depends on the state of mind that you are in.  If you are angry or thinking negatively about something you will make a rash decision.  Most of the time you will later regret the decision that you made.  Taking a minute and waiting until you are able to have a positive attitude can save you from making a bad situation worse.
