This Instant Pot Dirty Rice was the best dirty rice ever!!! We live in Louisiana and dirty rice, also called rice dressing, is a dish that is made quite often. This is the first time we have cooked it with this combination of ingredients to make our Instant Pot Dirty Rice.

What is Dirty Rice?

Dirty rice is a cajun dish. It is usually made with a mixture of rice, pork, chicken gizzards, liver, onions, and bell peppers. We used to cook it on the stove with this Savoie’s Rice Dressing Mix. Our Instant Pot Dirty Rice is a little different than this authentic cajun rice dressing mix. Since not everyone has access to this type of Savoie’s Rice Dressing Mix we made a recipe without the liver and gizards that still gives you the flavor with easy to find ingredients!

What do you eat with Dirty Rice?

Dirty rice is almost always served with anything that is cooked on the barbeque pit. We also serve it with fried chicken and many other southern dishes including corn bread. Since our Instant Pot Dirty Rice recipe is made with ground beef and pork sausage we served ours with Instant Pot Chicken Leg Quarters the first day and then ate it as a main dish the next day!

Instructions – Instant Pot Dirty Rice

#1.  First, put your Instant Pot on “Saute” mode and brown your ground beef and ground pork sausage.  Add in your Cajun/Creole seasoning while you are browning your meat.

#2.  Once your ground beef and ground pork sausage are browned drain most of the grease from your Instant Pot only leaving about a couple of Tbsp of grease on the bottom.

#3.  Next add your diced onion, bell pepper, and celery to your Instant Pot and cook them down for about 5 minutes until they brown a bit.

#4.  Then add your minced garlic, long grain rice, and butter to your Instant Pot.  Continue to cook this all together on the “saute” mode for about 3 minutes.  You want to lightly toast your rice in the butter.  You will need to continuously scrape the bottom of your pot with a plastic spatula so that your rice does not stick to the bottom and burn.

#5.  Next, add your Worcestershire sauce and chicken broth.  Scrape the bottom of the pot to make sure you get any pieces that might be stuck to the bottom off of the pot.

#6.  Next, close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the “sealing” position.

#7.  Then press the “Pressure Cook” button.  Next, press the “Pressure Level” button until you have selected “High Pressure”.

#8.  Turn the timer on for 3 minutes. Once pressure builds up, the timer will start counting down.

#9.  After the timer has completed allow your Instant Pot to naturally release the pressure for 10 minutes.  Then quick release any remaining pressure after that.  **Warning – The steam is very hot, use a towel to turn the release valve so it does not burn you.

Hi Maureen, I am pretty sure you could. However, I have never tried it. I will definitely put this in my list of new recipes to try though! 🙂 Once I get it perfected I will come back and post an article for it.
