Instant Pot Ground Beef Stroganoff

This Instant Pot Ground Beef Stroganoff Recipe is a simple dump and push start recipe.  It only requires very minimal browning to start off then everything is cooked together in just one pot.  If you want to skip the first step of browning your ground beef then you can substitute raw ground meat for pre-browned ground meat.

We use the 8 qt. Instant Pot to prepare all our meals.

We also use a digital cooking thermometer like this.  If you have any questions about what temperature something should be cooked at or reheated at you can check out FoodSafety.gov.  That’s what we use.

What kind of meat is used for beef stroganoff?

You can use different types of meat in beef stroganoff.  We chose to make this a ground beef recipe for a quick and easy meal.  You could also substitute ground beef for ground turkey.

Most people typically use thin strips or bite-size cuts of steak.   I think it is more of a personal preference as to what cut of steak you use.  Some people use boneless rib eye, boneless sirloin, sirloin steak tips, or beef tenderloin.  We prefer eye of round steak and will be posting an Instant Pot Beef Stroganoff recipe using that instead of ground beef in the future.

As a side note you can also use up any leftover beef you may have to make a quick and easy beef stroganoff meal!!!

How do I thicken beef stroganoff?

We have three things in this recipe to help thicken it up.  We use a combination of flour, cream of mushroom with roasted garlic, and sour cream.  If your beef stroganoff is still not as thick as you would like it to be you can add a little more flour to it by making a flour and water mixture.  Stir it in for a few minutes while your Instant Pot is on saute.

What is beef stroganoff made of?

Typically beef stroganoff is made of beef, egg noodles, garlic, onions, and mushrooms.  We use regular spiral noodles instead of egg noodles.  We also substitute out mushrooms and garlic for 1 (10.5 oz) can of cream of mushroom with roasted garlic.  I like finding ways to make our recipes as quick and easy as possible!

How do you add flavor to stroganoff?

People typically use salt, pepper, and onion powder to season beef stroganoff.  We live in Louisiana and we like to add extra “cajun” spice to most of our meals.  We use 1 tbsp. of Nature’s Seasoning blend which is a mixture of salt, pepper, onion, and garlic flavor.  We also use 1 tbsp. of Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning.  This is what adds the “cajun” flavor to our Instant Pot Ground Beef Stroganoff.

Instructions – Instant Pot Ground Beef Stroganoff

#1.  First, put Instant Pot on saute mode (high) and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable or olive oil.

#2.  Next, add ground turkey or beef, Nature Seasoning and Tony Chachere’s.   Saute until there is no pink left in the meat.  If you have to much grease after browning your ground meat drain it out of the pot before proceeding to the next step.

#6.  Next, close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the “sealing” position.

#7.  Then press the “Pressure Cook” button.  Next, press the “Pressure Level” button until you have selected “High Pressure”.  **Please note- If your Instant Pot is still on saute mode you will need to press “Cancel” then “Pressure Cook”.

#8.  Turn the timer on for 2 minutes. Once pressure builds up, the timer will start counting down.  (Meanwhile, you can place some garlic bread in the oven to start warming up.)

#9.  After the timer has completed turn the steam release valve to “Venting” for a quick release of steam. **Warning – The steam is very hot, use a towel to turn the release valve so it does not burn you.

#10.  Then after the steam has all released stir and allow it to cool for a few minutes.

#11.  Finally, stir in your sour cream and serve!

Just got an Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer for Christmas. Used it for the first time yesterday by trying this recipe. Had to alter a few things such as: I used ground moose meet instead of ground beef. Substituted 1 Tbsp. of Nature Seasoning with 1 tsp. onion powder, 1 tsp. garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp pepper. Substituted 1 Tbsp. Tony Chachere’s Seasoning with 1 Tbsp. Cajun Shake Seasoning. Also added 4 minced garlic cloves when browning the meat. Turned out excellent! Instructions were easy to follow since I’ve never used an Instant Pot before. Thx for sharing this recipe! 🙂
