Instant Pot Hamburger Helper with Fried Onion Topping

This is a quick and easy homemade Instant Pot Hamburger Helper Recipe.  It is a mixture of Hamburger Helper Beef Noodle and Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper.  My son asked me to make something that we could top with Fried Onions… so here it is.  The Fried Onions make this dish so much better.  It is like icing on the cake!  😊

What size Instant Pot did I use?

We use an 8 qt Instant Pot to cook all of our meals.  I like this size because I can use it for larger meals like Instant Pot Mississippi Pork Roast and Instant Pot Cajun Shrimp Boil as well as smaller meals like Instant Pot Macaroni and Cheese.

#2.  Next, add ground turkey or beef, Nature Seasoning or your seasoning of choice.  Saute until there is no pink left in the meat.  I add my Knorr Chicken or Beef Stock Tub while I brown my meat to let it disintegrate.

#6.  Turn the timer on for 4 minutes. Once pressure builds up, the timer will start counting down. (Meanwhile, you can place some garlic bread in the oven to start warming up.)

#7.  After the timer has completed turn the steam release valve to “Venting” for a quick release of steam.   Watch it close.  You may have to close it and open it just partially if some of the liquid sprays out.  **Warning – The steam is very hot, use a towel to turn the release valve so it does not burn you.

#8.  Mix you 1 cup of milk and 1 tbsp. of cornstarch together.

#9.  Stir in your milk and cornstarch mixture. Then add 1 cup of shredded cheese.  The longer you let it sit the thicker it will get.

This is one of my favorite pressure cooker recipes! So delicious. I’m doing Weight Watchers so I make a few edits to make it more point friendly. I use whole wheat elbow macaroni and up it to a full pound of pasta and use 4 cups of liquid. I also use velveeta shreds as the cheese and unsweetened cashew milk for the milk as they are lower in points. This is one of the few meals I don’t have to bribe my toddler to eat! He gobbles it up!

Thanks Rachel! So glad you like it. Also, thanks for the additional ingredient options.. I will have to to try that. 🙂
