How long does it take to cook chicken in a pressure cooker?
We use the pressure cook function on our Instant Pot the most. We have pressure cooked chicken as whole chicken breasts, sliced chicken breasts, or chicken tenderloins. We typically use the Instant Pot pressure cooking guide which states 6 -8 minutes per pound of chicken breasts. If we slice our chicken breasts into smaller pieces we might reduce the pressure cooking time a little so that we don’t overcook them. I always check our chicken with a meat thermometer to make sure the internal temperature has reached 165 degrees.
This is before pressure cooking.
This is after pressure cooking.
How do you shred chicken breasts?
It is super easy to shred chicken breasts after you have pressure cooked it in the Instant Pot. I cut my chicken breasts into strips first before pressure cooking them. I cut them into about 2” pieces and trim any fat or cartilage off of them.
Once you have pressure cooked the chicken breasts you leave them in the Instant Pot. Take two forks and tear through each piece of chicken. They will be able to soak in all the yummy flavors of the juice if you cooked them with the recipe on this post!!!
Ingredients – Instant Pot Shredded Chicken Tacos (Pressure Cooker)
- 2 lbs. Chicken Breasts Diced
- 1 Packet Frontera Ground Beef Taco Sauce (this stuff is delicious)
- 1 Packet Dry Ranch Salad Dressing and Seasoning Mix
- 1 and ½ Cups of Water
- Taco Shells
- Tortillas
- Shredded Lettuce
- Shredded Cheese
Instructions – Instant Pot Shredded Chicken Tacos (Pressure Cooker)
#1. Slice your chicken breasts into 2” pieces.
#2. Place your chicken breasts, water, taco seasoning, and ranch dressing mix into the Instant Pot and stir it all together.
#3. Then close the lid and turn the steam release valve to “sealing” position.
#4. Next, press the pressure cook button. Then press pressure level button until high pressure is selected. Set the timer for 10 minutes.
#5. After the timer has completed allow your Instant Pot to naturally release the steam for 10 minutes then quick release any remaining steam. **Warning – The steam is very hot, use a towel to turn the release valve so it does not burn you.
#6. Use two forks and shred your chicken inside of the Instant Pot so they can soak up all of the flavor from the juices.
#7. Enjoy your tacos!!
Final Thoughts
You can substitute the Frontera Taco Sauce with any taco sauce packet if you want. We just prefer this brand. I love the flavor it gives ground turkey, beef and chicken.
