Easy Instant Pot Salisbury Steak and Gravy

You will love this Easy Instant Pot Salisbury Steak and Gravy!  I debated on whether to title it Instant Pot Hamburger Steak or Salisbury Steak…..  I typically call this meal hamburger steak but it seems like the more common name online would be Salisbury Steak.  This is a very simple recipe.   All you do is just dump and press start plus cook whatever side items you want to serve with it.  It is also very delicious!!!

We made ours with only sliced onion rings but you can add mushrooms to this recipe as well if you want.

We use the 8 qt. Instant Pot to prepare all our meals.

We also use a digital cooking thermometer like this.  If you have any questions about what temperature something should be cooked at or reheated at you can check out FoodSafety.gov.  That’s what we use.

Do I have to make hamburger patties by hand with breadcrumbs and eggs?

Absolutely not!  I buy regular hamburger patties that are raw but pre-seasoned and formed into the hamburger patties from our local grocery store.  I use them for our Instant Pot Cajun Meatball Stew and in this recipe.  They cook perfectly for us in both recipes.  It saves me time in the kitchen by doing it this way rather than having to mix everything together and then form the meatballs or patties.

2 lb. Hamburger Patties (we get ours pre-seasoned from our local grocery store)

1 package brown gravy mix

1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

1 tbsp Minced Garlic

2 cups Beef Stock

1 large Onion

Any additional Seasoning of Choice (We use Tony Chachere’s)

Instructions – Easy Instant Pot Salisbury Steak and Gravy

#1.  First slice your onion into large rings then layer them on the bottom of your Instant Pot.

#2.  Next, place your hamburger patties on top of the onions.  Now remember our hamburger patties are already pre-seasoned.  I do add a little Tony Chachere’s seasoning on top just for some extra flavoring!

#3.  Then, mix your 2 cups of beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, and your packet of brown gravy all together then pour it into your Instant Pot.

#4.  Close the lid and turn the steam release valve to the “sealing” position.

#5.  Next, press the pressure cook button.  Then press pressure level button until high pressure is selected.   Set the timer for 15 minutes.

#6.  After the timer has completed turn the steam release valve to “venting” for a quick release of steam.   **Warning – The steam is very hot, use a towel to turn the release valve so it does not burn you.  Keep a close eye on it.  You may need to close the valve every so often and wait a minute or two if some liquid starts to spray out.

#7.  Finally, serve and enjoy!

I only have two 8 qt IP’s so it is hard to say. I think it would be ok to layer them. Mine were layered a little also. I think it would work just fine.

You can try one cup of beef stock instead. Or you can use the two cups of beef stock but make a corn starch and cold water slurry(1-2 tbsp of corn starch mixed with a little cold water). When your finished pressure cooking dump your slurry into your Instant Pot and whisk it with the gravy. You should put your Instant Pot on Saute while you are doing this to thicken your gravy.

When you say pre seasoned does this mean it already has the bread crumbs in the hamburger meat when you buy it at the store?
