Easy Instant Pot Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee

This is our version of a Quick and Easy Instant Pot Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee!  It is a dump and push start recipe.  You do not make a roux like a traditional etouffee you make on the stove, but in my opinion, it is just as good!  If you do not have access to crawfish tails you can substitute the 1 lb. of crawfish for shrimp instead.  So you would have 2 lbs. of shrimp total for this recipe instead of 1 lb. crawfish and 1 lb. shimp.

We also made a quick and easy version of Instant Pot Chicken and Sausage Gumbo if you would like to try that also.

This pressure cooker shrimp and crawfish etouffee recipe is perfect for a busy weeknight meal!

What does etouffee taste like?

For most of you that are not familiar with the type of food served in Louisiana, like etouffee, gumbo, or jambalaya you may be wondering “what does an etouffee taste like?”.  Etouffee means smothered.  It is normally vegetables like what we call the “holy trinity”. These are diced onions, bell peppers, and celery.  They are typically cooked down in butter first to make a light roux.  Then mixed with either your shrimp, crawfish or both and smothered in a thick gravy.  We serve this over rice.

We modified this recipe so it would be a dump and push start instant pot recipe but still give you the full flavor of an authentic Crawfish or Shrimp Etouffee!  Hope you guys enjoy it!

Is Etouffee Spicy?

We generally do love spicy food.  However, this recipe uses an Italian Salad Dressing Mix packet and Tony Chachere’s Seasoning.  It is well flavored but not very spicy.  Italian Salad Dressing Mix is not a common seasoning that is used in an authentic etouffee. ………… But, we made a Easy Instant Pot Shrimp Recipe (only 3 Ingredients) the other day and they were so good that had to incorporate it into another recipe!

Side Note—We always use a digital cooking thermometer like this.  If you have any question about what temperature something should be cooked at or reheated at you can check out FoodSafety.gov.

Loved it! We were looking for something new during Lent and this hit the mark. We couldn’t find any cream of shrimp so I used lobster bisque. Turned out great!

Yay!!! I am so glad you liked it. I would have never thought of using lobster bisque either. I just might have to try that…. Thanks!

The 1 minute is correct. It is actually cooking while your Instant Pot is coming up to pressure. The timer starts the 1 minute once your Instant Pot is fully pressurized and you shrimp and crawfish are mostly cooked by then. Hope that helps! 🙂

Absolutely delicious! Used cream of chicken with herbs soup instead of cream of shrimp. Also added 1/4 cup of sherry when finished. It was SO GOOD! I wish we had more leftovers.
